Beginnings We started playing paintball as a group of young paintballers in 2004 who wanted to have fun, but also wondered what the scenario and competitive side of paintball was like. After forming the team we began traveling to larger scenario games throughout the eastern part of the US. After a few short years our team became notorious as a group that could get things done, and still be honest, fair and sportsmanlike. These values are our core, and no player is allowed to be a part of our group unless they intend to uphold these values. Home Fields FPJ is a permanent part of the Can/Scots of DDay, we consider Red Dragon Paintball in Hamersville, OH to be one of our "home" fields, as well as Smak-Zone Paintball in Patterson, MO (even though it's six hours away, it's home to us). We play on many other fields as well, but these are the ones we consider home. We also have a number of local fields that we host local plays dates at as well, but these are not commercial fields. The Team Today Today we are a scenario and OpFor paintball team. This simply means that we still play scenario games throughout the eastern (and sometimes mid-western) parts of the US, but we also provide OpFor (opposing force) services to any group we can. We mostly provide services to our local Army ROTC command, but we occasionally provide services to other groups. If you represent a group of law enforcement or military personnel that needs a reliable group with strong leadership to provide OpFor service, then we're your group. Contact our CO or XO for more information. The Team Name Our name may be the most confusing part about our team. We started out as Rowan Platoon, and then we added the Full Plastic Jacket. We called ourselves Rowan Platoon because almost all of the original members were from the Morehead, KY area. We then started adding groups (additional squads) to our team. In the past we've had squads from many areas and even other states. At this time we have 3 squads, Rowan, Lexington & Pike. All of these refer to areas of Kentucky where we have a group of 5-10 guys who play and practice together. It is not unusual for us to be called those Rowan boys, Rowan, FPJ, Plastic Jacket or a whole host of other names. As long as you look in our general direction and yell, we'll respond to most anything! Leadership Style We employ a system of military ranks for our members. We do this for two reason. First, it's easier to tell who's in charge when you know everyone's rank. When you're in the middle of a game and you have 20-30 teammates operating, one could easily get confused as to who to follow. Secondly, we work with many organizations that emphasize rank (during OpFor activities), and when working with these groups they typically want to know who's in charge of various things, and sometimes by habit refer to things by their (military) ranks. Its easier for us to translate our team leadership into their ranks so everything "fits". In reality everyone on our team is an equal, and leadership is elected each year by the membership. It's an honor to hold any leadership rank in FPJ, and the men or women who hold these ranks volunteer many extra hours to the team to make things happen behind the scenes! |
